Communications Intern at the
Office of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement at Montclair State University

I was so fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience my first internship within my own university. The Office of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement is responsible for keeping Montclair alumni connected to their alma mater. Being a Communications intern can mean a lot of things, but I was mainly responsible for:

  • Proofreading and factchecking the Class Notes and In Memoriam sections of the Montclair magazine

  • Generating posts and sharing other university content across different social media platforms

  • Updating the online alumni event calendar

  • Assisting other student employees and staff with other office administrative duties

  • Preparation for on and off-campus events as well as working some when available

Each week brought a new project to really focus on, and through my weekly journals and portfolio, I've been able to reflect on all the contributions I've made to this office as a student and creator.

"One of the pillars of the Office of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement is communications. We produce a high volume of communications to our alumni audience, and this is key to our success."
